Mr. Personality

Silas’s personality really started to come out while visiting Grandma and Grandpa in West Virginia. He’s loving stuffed animals these days. Aunt Ruth Anna gave him Clifford the Big Red Dog for his birthday, and Clifford is easily Silas’s new favorite. Baby also gives hugs occasionally. I don’t get hugs often, so I treasure them when I do.

Silas loves to play games. Mostly his games are ones he makes up himself or we make up together. Stephen will run through the house saying, “Where’s Daddy? Where’s Daddy?” Then Silas will laugh and squeal and run after him trying to find him. It’s their version of Hide & Seek.

Another new game is the Nodding Game. Silas made this one up when he “met” himself in the full length mirror one day. He nods his head, then we nod ours. Sometimes he’ll shake his head, and then we’ll have to shake ours. He was even playing the Nodding Game with our family over Skype!

He’s got this thing for handing us something, taking it back, handing it to us again, and so on. Repetition aids learning I guess. He’s starting to put things back where he found them too. Silas will grab a water bottle off my night stand, and then try to put it back. Sure hope that habit continues.

Bitty Boy blows kisses, waves goodbye, plays Peek-a-Boo, and starts leading singing when live music is played. He uses sign language when he wants “more” or “milk.” Sometimes he’ll walk around the house growling. He’s all boy!

Bath time is full of splashes. Silas has discovered that baths are a lot more fun in the big boy tub.

His new hobby is shutting doors. So far, he can only shut doors and not open them, so we always know which side of the door he’s on when we hear one shut.

This little guy is just too much fun!

My 1st Birthday Party

I’m the Birthday Boy! Grandma colored a banner for me, and Great Grandpa and Great Grandma Bell came to celebrate. Mommy cooked a yummy chicken supper, and then I opened my presents while we Skyped with Aunt Charis all the way in Alaska! I love tissue paper so much that I almost missed the presents underneath it. There were so many new toys that I didn’t know which one to play with first. My favorite part was hearing everybody sing “Happy Birthday” to me. I smiled so big because I knew they were singing just for me. Mommy made Great Grandma Moody’s cheesecake and there was one candle in my piece. It was way more fun to play with the cheesecake than to eat it.

Nothing like a birthday at Grandma and Grandpa’s house!

Happy 1st Birthday, Silas!

You are our treasure boy. A year ago today you landed—warm and cuddly, and oh, so tiny—in our arms. Mommy couldn’t believe you were here. Daddy walked around with a smile on his face for hours that day. Mommy and Daddy are still smiling. We love you, Silas Clark.

First Haircut

Before.After.Stephen was the barber, and he did a terrific job—especially when you factor in that he was cutting the hair of a wiggly baby!To minimize the wiggles, we sat Silas in his booster seat, gave him a sippy cup with apple juice and played a DVD on Stephen’s laptop. It did help, but as you can see, Silas wasn’t at all sure that he liked what Daddy was doing to his head.

October Scenes

As the only baby in the church nursery, Silas has all the toys and books to himself. However, a friend of ours had her baby this week, and another friend is due this month, so Silas won’t be alone for long.Our Little Biped prefers walking to crawling now that he’s a bit more practiced. Sometimes I’m amazed that he manages to stay on his feet, but his balance is improving.
Instead of walking to a specific piece of furniture, he’s walking around the house and can even do a 180 turn without falling.

Although Silas still fits in the kitchen sink, he prefers to stand for his bath, so we’ve switched to baths in Mommy and Daddy’s tub.Baby blew kisses to me for the first time this week. This little guy has a tight hold on my heart.

First Steps!!

Silas took three steps tonight! He was standing in front of me, holding a paper towel. All of the sudden, he took three steps forward and then fell to his hands and knees. He’s been trying to take a step since last week, but he actually accomplished it tonight. Baby took several more steps as we tried to get him to perform for a video. Here are some of the best shots we captured. So glad Stephen was home to see this happy milestone.

From Librarian to Chef

Silas has decided it’s time for a career change. The magazine rack just isn’t as interesting as it used to be. Although we installed some cabinet locks a while ago, they haven’t really been needed until this past week when Silas discovered how to open drawers and cabinets. I’m thinking more locks are needed ASAP!At least there’s one cabinet he can play in.
